Social media is a great way to spread your content and engage with thought leaders in your industry, but many companies aren’t thinking about how these platforms can be used to boost their brands’ reputation as well. Here are a few ways to do this on social media:
Hashtags on Instagram and Twitter are one of the best ways to get involved in a conversation. If there is news in your industry, a relevant event or conference, or something that your brand should be involved in, start sharing opinions, media and content with the hashtag in the Tweet or description. This will help people come across your content and brand when they are searching for the hashtag and it could get your brand in front of people who have never even heard of you before.
- Offer Client Service Support
Take a look at how banks, e-commerce companies and insurance institutions are using social media to help their clients. If a customer or potential customer has a question about your company, service or product, they should be able to ask you on social media and get a response from you within a short amount of time. If you don’t have the capacity to monitor your social media channels on a daily basis, consider hiring a social media manager or community manager to help you. Being responsive can go a long way in boosting your brand online.
- Plan Your Content In Advance
One area where a company’s social media marketing strategy usually falls flat is when it comes to regularly adding content. Plan a content schedule in advance so that you know what type of content you will be sharing on social media throughout the month.

While Instagram is a phenomenally popular and successful social media platform, many brands are still unsure of how to go about using it. We’ve posted a few blogs about using Instagram for marketing, but this post is dedicated to how to use hashtags to maximum effect.
Hashtags are a great way to:
- Connect with new people on Instagram,
- Find discussions,
- Contribute commentary,
- Spark discussions, and
- Gain more followers.
If you’re not adding hashtags to your posts, then you’re missing out on attracting attention from people who are looking for content related to what you are posting.
Your first step in the right direction is to find hashtags that are exceptionally popular. Some hashtags, such as #retailtherapy, may apply to your business if you are selling consumer products.
You should also be using location-based hashtags, especially if you are trying to target customers in a specific area. People like supporting local businesses. So, if you include your town or city’s name as a hashtag, you will be able to draw the attention of more people in your area. Another way to add some personality to your Instagram account is to include a few tongue in the cheek hashtags such as #spoilyourself and #itsoursecret.
In December 2017, Instagram introduced the ability to follow hashtags. This will make it easier for your brand to stay on top of discussions and topics that are relevant to your niche. Following a hashtag is like following a friend. So, you will be able to see everything from the top posts to the latest stories when you follow a hashtag.

While B2B business owners may not be aware of this, most digital marketers know that there’s a huge ‘fake follower’ economy in the internet marketing world. People can easily go onto sites like Fiverr.com and buy followers for their Twitter, Instagram or Facebook pages. They can just as easily buy likes and comments.
The problem with the fake follower economy is that it is pointless. These followers are often located in other countries and they don’t have active, engaging accounts – they’re simply paid to like and comment on whatever they’re being paid to comment on. On the outside, it may seem like your competitors are much more popular than you, but on closer inspection, you may come to realise that a large majority of their followers are from paid accounts.
The New York Times recently published an exposé on Devumi, a prominent purveyor of fake followers, which concluded that he was in control of over 3.5-million fake Twitter accounts. One of the major problems with Devumi’s army of fake followers is that many of them use personal information and photos of real users.
Businesses are risking their reputations by buying fake followers as impersonation and identity theft are illegal in many countries. This type of dubious social media arbitrage is very different from influencer marketing, where you partner with social media influencers to review or promote your brand. Influencer marketing can have a real impact on your brand awareness and bottom line, and it’s more expensive and time-consuming to get right than buying fake followers.

As any company with a Facebook page knows, getting people to like and follow your page isn’t as easy as you think it might be. If you’ve already let your clients and employees know about your Facebook page, then it’s time start thinking a bit broader to find relevant new fans.
While there are tricks to getting tons of fans, these often don’t have sustainable or good effects on your business (paying people to like your page, for example, will only lead to a bunch of people in perhaps different countries liking your page and these followers will never convert to paying clients). It’s extremely important for you to focus on attracting an audience that will bring you business.
One thing that you can do is create a very simple Facebook Page Like Ad. The copy and the imagery need to appeal to your target audience and ask them to like your page. If possible, offer something of value in return for liking your page.
The targeting of these ads is very important. With custom audiences, you can target your offline audiences on Facebook. You can use your email list or your phone number list to tell Facebook who the ads should appear to. Once you have created this list, you can have Facebook find users who are similar to those on your list so that you can broaden your audience. This tool is called “lookalike audiences”.
Another way to target relevant people is to use the “website custom audiences” tool. This enables Facebook to show your ads to people who have visited your website in the past.

Many times, people launch a Facebook company page with the idea of promoting everything from their blogs and staff photos to products and promotions. They quickly realise that this can all be pointless if they don’t have people following their page.
If you want to promote your new Facebook page, consider the following:
- Paid Advertising
You can get your company page under the eyes of your target audience by promoting your posts. While this will cost a bit of money, you can make sure that only certain people see your posts, for example, people who are in your own location, have specifically liked certain interests or events on Facebook, or people of a specific gender.
- Include A Link In Your Emails
How will your existing clients know about your Facebook page if you don’t tell them about it? It’s not like people browse Facebook looking for their client’s businesses, so consider sending them an email about your new page, or include a Facebook logo in your email signature that links to your page.
- Write A Blog Post
If you have a blog, write a blog post about your company’s new Facebook page. Give clients a reason to like your page (such as access to in-store promotion details). Tell them that you will also be sharing your latest blog posts and thought leadership pieces on your Facebook page, so it’s an easy way to stay updated with relevant news from your company.
- Add A Follow Button On Your Website
You can make it easy for your website visitors to like your Facebook page by adding a follow button on your website.
